Narcan® Storage unit
Exhibited on TODO show, 2018
A third-year school project collaborated with Winnie Chen and Maddy Bailey, 2018
About
A collaboration project with the Narcan company to create a storage solution for the naloxone nasal spray in a public setting. Our group chose to design this storage unit in a restaurant /bar setting, aiming for trained staff to access and administrate the nasal spray when an overdose is spotted.
NARCAN® Nasal Spray is a prescription medicine used for the treatment of an opioid emergency such as an overdose or a possible opioid overdose with signs of breathing problems and severe sleepiness or not being able to respond.
NARCAN® Nasal Spray is to be given right away and does not take the place of emergency medical care. Get emergency medical help right away after giving the first dose of NARCAN® Nasal Spray, even if the person wakes up.
NARCAN® Nasal Spray is safe and effective in children for known or suspected opioid overdose.

What is Narcan?
Our Solution
Main Features
Storage Unit with side opening for instructions and compartment for gloves.
The unit contains 2 doses of Narcan and 2 multiple pairs of gloves.
The Colour of the unit coincides with the Narcan logo. A simple graphic at the front indicates what is inside.
A transparent side to see how many doses are left in the box.
The top shelf of the unit with slots for the Narcan to slide in and out.
The QR code at the back led to a restocking system when both doses were used.
Fighting With The Stigma
We spotted there is still stigmatism towards opioid overdose in most circumstances, which made us realized that people should be educated on it.
That's the reason why we decide to put this bright-coloured storage box right behind the bartender to create more conversation between the customers and the trained staff in the restaurant.
We also created two posters to put in the bathroom, the hallway, or the restaurant window to spread more consciousness.
Easy Restock For The Restaurant
As part of our goal to make naloxone access more accessible , we want to include a restock feature in our design. This will involve helping people to find pharmacies that have Naloxone in stock since it can be quite challenging to find despite being free.
Therefore, we created this wireframe for a smartphone application. The registered restaurant manager can restock their Narcan kit by merely clicking through the app; they can locate the nearest pharmacy that carries the kit and have it delivered or picked up.
